Quercus Publishing has entered a joint venture with Sterling Publishing, creating a new fiction imprint for the North American market, Silver Oak.

The three-year contract stipulates the two publishers will each own half of Silver Oak. Sterling will oversee all of Silver Oak’s marketing in North America. The imprint’s first title, a crime novel entitled Three Seconds, will be released in January 2011. The book is a Swedish import written by a journalist and ex-criminal duo, Anders Roslund and Borge Hellstrom. The book rose to the top of the Swedish bestseller list and won the Swedish Crime Novel of the Year award. The YouTube trailer (embedded above) is in English.

Mark Smith, Quercus CEO commented: “This partnership with one of North America’s leading publishing companies will give us access to the world’s largest fiction market through Sterling’s substantial marketing and promotional resources. Quercus has had a long and productive association with both Sterling and B & N and we look forward to collaborating on this fiction initiative.”

Sterling is a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble. The UK publisher Quercus published Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy. After starting off with a list of illustrated non-fiction books, but following The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, they now publish more than 80 fiction titles a year.
