Smashwords Adds Price Manager & Library Direct

Self-publishing site Smashwords has updated its platform adding a new pricing tool and a new library feature.

AppNewser has more: “The “Pricing Manager” feature lets authors and publishers set the retail price of their books within the dashboard of Smashwords. The second new feature is called Library Direct, which enables libraries and consortiums to place large orders with Smashwords and license eBooks in bulk. Smashwords expects these orders to amount to about $30,000 for the set. Authors and publishers will earn 70 percent of the library price, which is higher than the 45 percent earned aggregator partners.”

Smashwords’ CEO Mark Coker explains more about the library feature: “This new channel will complement our existing relationships with library aggregators such as Baker & Taylor Axis 360 and 3M’s Cloud Library.  Our goal is to make our books as available and accessible to libraries as possible, and for the small subset of libraries who want to host and manage their own ebooks, Library Direct is yet another option to acquire your books.”

Last week, Smashwords reported that four of its authors made The New York Times Best Sellers list for eBook fiction.
