Should Schools Still Teach Cursive?

As typing and word processing programs now dominate the workplace, Time magazine reports that Indiana schools are no longer required to teach students cursive. What do you think about this controversial move?

Here’s more from the article: “That age-old writing method you might never have used since fourth grade will no longer be taught in Indiana schools come fall, thanks to a memo from school officials … The directive from the state’s Department of Education allows schools to decide for themselves whether to continue teaching cursive or disband the archaic practice altogether.”

FULL DISCLOSURE: This GalleyCat editor had many traumatic experiences in handwriting class and, in a fit of high school rebellion, decided to stop using cursive forever. Today our handwriting resembles the chicken scratch scrawl of a frustrated grade school student. (Image via; link via)
