Sorry, Mike, I saw the glittering redeye from my camera’s flash and I just couldn’t resist… Anyway, that’s Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys co-editor Tom Dolby chatting with Elizabeth Spiers, one of the anthology’s contributors (and the creator of the current GalleyCat roster), at the launch party for the collection of “True Tales of Love, Lust, and Friendship Between Straight Women and Gay Men” at Mantra 986 last night. Elsewhere in the packed room, Dolby’s collaborator, Melissa de la Cruz, talked about her whirlwind schedule—she’s in town to pin down details on the campaigns for her new novels from Simon & Schuster and Hyperion as well as promote the Dutton anthology—and explained why Tinsley Mortimer, whose name had appeared on the party invite as a host, had to back out for a family event. (Nothing tragic, thankfully; quite the opposite!)

When I spotted this T-shirt in the crowd, I was sure that the woman wearing it had to be one of the anthology’s contributors, but Jenny Chafe assured me that she’s just an ordinary girl who likes boys who likes boys, and she came up with the slogan herself, along with other Brokeback-themed shirts, which she’s selling online to raise money for the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
