About a year and a half ago, Kathy Freston threw a book party for Arianna Huffington at her Upper East Side townhouse—this weekend, Huffington returned the favor at her Brentwood estate, celebrating the publication of Freston’s Quantum Wellness, a handbook for healthy living, with an intimate group of 300 friends and colleagues. I showed up with FishbowlLA‘s Tina Dupuy and Bridget Kinsella (who’s got an online project dealing with the book world in the works that’s going to be awesome), and we joined the crowd of people that had already begun to spill out into the back yard, where Hollywood types like Michael York and David Steinberg rubbed shoulders with literati like Meghan Daum and Trey Ellis. On my way to the bar, I passed PW‘s Sara Nelson, then ran into Carol Fitzgerald of Bookreporter.com poolside, chatting with the editor of a local yoga magazine.

I am led to believe that the appetizers were based on recipes from Freston’s book; the mushroom risotto certainly seemed healthy enough, and the antioxidant qualities of the pomengranate martinis are probably not to be taken lightly.
