Writer/artist Dan Goldman (right, with glasses and beard) tries to sort out the technical issues so he can show off the first installment in the new story arc of his webcomic “Kelly”, which was rejected by Nerve.com due to its sexual content earlier this week. (Fair warning: the comic isn’t necessarily NSFW yet, but Goldman’s writing a highly idiosyncratic [by which I mean “sadomasochistic”] romance—shiny, happy people holding hands this ain’t.) Unfortunately, they never did get the right cables, but that didn’t stop the crowd in the back room of the Village Pourhouse from enjoying themselves celebrating the first anniversary of the webcomic collective ACT-I-VATE, led by site founder Dean Haspiel.

At top, ACT-I-VATE “Minister of Hype” Jeff Newelt (left) stands out in the crowd. Among the guests: former Village Voice sex columnist and current erotic anthologist Rachel Kramer Bussel and Vertical Books publicist Anne Ishii.
