The Rosenbach Museum & Library celebrated the 84th birthday of children’s author/illustrator Maurice Sendak with the opening of its new exhibit, “Maurice Sendak: A Legacy.”
This special exhibition will run until May 26, 2013. Every four months, the exhibit will be refreshed with new pieces so that all of Sendak’s picture books will be showcased at some point.
Visitors can expect to see 65 pieces at a time; this was planned to highlight Sendak’s 65-year career in children’s publishing. Will you be making a trip to Philadelphia this summer?
Here’s more from The Huffington Post: “[Sendak] took his cue from other great thinkers, counting Mozart, Emily Dickinson, and Herman Melville among his influences…In a roundabout way, it was Melville who brought Sendak’s work to the current exhibition at the Rosenbach Museum & Library. In 1966, Sendak paid a visit to the little known corner of Philadelphia to examine the extensive collections of Melville’s work housed at the Rosenbach.
