Of Course It’s About the Sales

Noted with interest in Radar‘s item about the new title for Kate White‘s self-help book: White’s insistence that renaming How to Set His Thighs on Fire: 86 Red-Hot Lessons on Love, Life, Men, and (Especially) Sex “didn’t have anything to do with sales,” and was strictly in response to readers’ comments “the existing title didn’t reflect all the career stuff and life lessons in the book in addition to the relationship material.”

Color me cynical, but I’ve seen a few book rechristenings over the years, and I feel fairly comfortable saying that they don’t take place when a book is meeting its market expectations. It may well be true that You on Top: Smart, Sexy Skills Every Woman Needs to Set the World on Fire is a more accurate branding of the book’s content, but if it weren’t broke, how inclined would Grand Central be to fix it?
