Mitch Hedberg: ‘Write down anything funny that comes into your head. Don’t be lazy.’

By Jason Boog

The late comedian Mitch Hedberg shared a secret for all writers in a mini-documentary at the Modern Comedian YouTube series (video embedded above).

Hedberg had this deceptively simple tip: “Always make sure that you write down thoughts that are funny. You want to make sure you hang on to all the funny things you think of. It’s as simple as that: write down anything funny that comes into your head. Don’t be lazy.”

The video also includes an intimate look at Hedberg’s writing notebooks, filled with countless pages of jokes, thoughts and free writing. It is an inspiring reminder for all writers to keep a writing notebook and shows how much work goes into a great writer’s routine.

Here’s more about the video: “Lynn Shawcroft is a hilarious person who was married to Mitch Hedberg the last 6 years of his life. Needless to say she has lots of great stories and possesses many of Mitch’s notebooks which she shares in this episode. For updates on this documentary series, follow Scott Moran on Twitter. Follow Lynn too!” (Via Gawker)
