Michael Bennett, a defensive end player for the Seattle Seahawks football team, has launched a book club for his teammates. Maurice Kelly, the vice president of player engagement for the Seahawks, supports Bennett on this venture.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the inaugural selection for this group will be Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell. Little, Brown and Company first published this book back in 2008.
In an interview with ESPN, Bennett explained why he chose this title: “I think ‘Outliers’ is the perfect book for us because we are outliers when you think of the sense of what we’ve been through and who we are and the situation we were born in. For us, everything that we built up, that whole 10,000 hours of doing what we’ve been doing to be great at this moment, it’s definitely us when it comes to that.” (via the Seattle Seahawks website)
