Arjouni wrote five crime novels about a detective named featuring the heroic underdog detective Kemal Kayankaya. The organizers hope to raise $100,000 in his memory for pancreatic cancer research. Here’s more about the fund:

The Arjouni Fund will be administered by the Lustgarten Foundation, the world’s largest private foundation dedicated to pancreatic cancer research, with 100% of donations going directly to research. Melville House will be donating proceeds from its sales of the just-published Brother Kemal, Jakob Arjouni’s last book.
