Times Reporter Mary Pilon Discusses Debut Book

By Dianna Dilworth

New York Times reporter Mary Pilon‘s debut book, “The Monopolists: Fury and the Scandal Behind the World’s Favorite Board Game,” (Bloomsbury) uncovers the secret history of the board game Monopoly. The book details the previously unknown woman behind the game, how Parker Brothers reinvented her creation, and the man who spent years uncovering the game’s questionable origins.

GalleyCat caught up with Pilon to discuss the new book. Pilon talks about shopping the book during the recession; the role of original reporting in the era of Google; and how she juggled writing a book while keeping up as a sports reporter at The New York Times.
