Lambda Seeks Funds to Nurture Next-Gen LGBTQ Lit

The Lambda Literary Foundation is planning a week-long intensive retreat for 22 developing writers in Los Angeles next month, with workshops led by A-list gay and lesbian authors like John Rechy and Dorothy Allison, as well as the perspective of agents, small publishers, and others on the literary scene. For those writers who are unable to fully afford the tuition and lodging costs, the Foundation has already raised $10,500…but they’re hoping for another $4,500 in donations in the weeks ahead.

“I’ve taught literature and creative writing since 1978,” says Bernard Cooper, one of the retreat’s instructors, “and I’m always enthusiastic about thew prospect of nurturing talent and making more passionate readers. The Lambda retreat seemed like a good opportunity to meet writers new and established. Most of all, Charles Flowers and Katherine Forrest are such inspiring writers and organizers, it would have been foolish of me not to participate.”
