Karl Ove Knausgaard Doesn’t Want to Write About Himself Anymore

By Dianna Dilworth

After writing a six volume, 3,600 page memoir about his daily life, Norwegian author Karl Ove Knausgaard no longer wants to write about himself.

In an interview with author Sheila Heti at the Chicago Humanities Festival, published in The Chicago Review of Books, Knausgaard revealed why. Here is an excerpt from the interview:

I don’t want to write about myself [anymore]. I don’t want to write about my own psychology. I don’t want to go inwards, I want to go outwards. I’ve not gone very far, though… I’ve gone like two meters. And I’m writing about objects, things, and my surroundings. It’s short text. It’s one text, one object. I can write about vomit. I manage to write about love or a glass of water, or a tree, or whatever.
