Indie Publisher Finances Fiber & Fashion Books on Kickstarter

By Jason Boog

Frustrated by funding problems, the indie knitting and craft publisher Cooperative Press turned to Kickstarter–raising more than $5,600 from 128 backers so far.

Here’s more about the project: “Fresh Designs is a series of books that Cooperative Press has been working on for the past year. Each title (Hats, Scarves, Sweaters, etc) features 10 patterns by emerging designers. As with our other titles, we’ll also release digital and e-book editions. We’ve had great success thus far with digital editions, especially overseas. We need money up front to cut our overall Fresh Designs production costs, and to free up available funds so that some of our other book projects (such as Beyond Knit and Purl and Extreme Double Knitting) can be released before the fiber arts industry’s largest trade show in June 2011.”
