HarperStudio Still Answering Reader Questions

By Jason Boog

harperStudioHeader.jpgFollowing HarperCollins’ announcement last week that HarperStudio will close, GalleyCat turned to the imprint’s formspring.me page to see how HarperCollins director of digital marketing Debbie Stier would answer questions.

Stier fielded a few questions since Friday on the site. The first question was “Why do you think HarperCollins decided to close HarperStudio? It doesn’t seem like the imprint was leaking money from huge advances that didn’t earn out.” Stier replied: “It’s complicated, but the short answer is that it was the easiest way to make sure the authors and books were best taken care of.”

Another reader wrote: “I’m sorry the studio is closing. It’s good that they’re keeping you focused on Digital Marketing. That book has yet to be written, and you should be the one to write it.” Stier replied: “Re-do: Me too 🙁 (closing); …..and thank you 🙂 Stay tuned for next chapter.”
