HarperStudio Re-Enters Digital Book Pricing Debate

By Jason Boog

harperStudioHeader.jpgDebbie Stier from HarperStudio revisited the e-book pricing debate recently, proposing that e-books should be conceived and valued differently than print books.

Here are her thoughts: “The first TV shows were basically radio programs on the television — until someone realized that TV was a whole new medium. Ebooks should not just be print books delivered electronically. We need to take advantage of the medium and create something dynamic to enhance the experience. I want links and behind the scenes extras and narration and videos and conversation … My new mantra is: Start Over: How Should the Content Be Built.”

Last month, HarperStudio publisher Bob Miller argued that Amazon’s typical e-book price of $9.99 would make it difficult for publishers to make a profit, drawing nearly 50 responses from readers. GalleyCat entered the fray as well when one expert explained Why E-Books Are So Expensive.
