Michael Enright, Claire Messud, and Ali Smith make-up the three-member jury; each writer hails from a different English-speaking nation (Canada, USA, and the UK). They chose the 13 titles from a pool of 98 submissions sent by 38 different publishers.

Read the complete longlist here. Some of the titles included are The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman, Lemon by Cordelia Strube, The Matter with Morris by David Bergen, Player One by Douglas Coupland, and The Sentimentalists by Johanna Skibsrud.

According to the press release, the shortlist will be announced on October 5th. Each finalist on that list will receive $5000 (in Canadian currency). Linden MacIntyre won last year’s Giller Prize for his title, The Bishop Man.
