Genre Fiction Site Revamps, Book Trailers Find a Home

Here’s another nail in the “teh intarwebs don’t do book reviews” coffin: BookGasm is celebrating its third anniversary tomorrow with the unveiling of a new logo (from Oklahoma City-based designer Matt Goad) that effectively trumpets its commitment to daily reviews in popular genres like horror, science fiction, mystery, crime and fantasy. “While Bookgasm’s tagline of ‘reading material to get excited about’ supports our message of reading for pleasure,” says editor Rod Lott, “the new logo drives that point home even more.” (Disclosure: Lott has guest-blogged at my personal website, Beatrice.)

Meanwhile, for those of you who love book trailers, there’s a new website with nothing but—BookScreening.com. I’ve long maintained that one of the main problems with these promotional videos is the lack of a “destination site” where people can reliably expect to find new trailers, rather than stumbling upon them through random pickups by sites like GalleyCat—so I guess we can put that theory to the test now. The presentation is simple: No reviews, just the trailers and brief, upbeat descriptions of the books that appear to be culled from the publishers’ catalogs.
