Enid Schantz Has Died

Rue Morgue Press co-founder and bookseller Enid Schantz has passed away. Over her long career, she studied at the Iowa University Writers Workshop, co-wrote newspaper reviews, planned mystery conventions and sold books.

Schantz (pictured, via) founded Rue Morgue Press with her husband in 1997.  The couple focused on selling mysteries after discovering that “our mystery customers were so much nicer and more interesting than our others—and bought so many more books.”

Mystery Fanfare had this tribute: “Enid and her husband Tom Schantz have been involved in the mystery community since 1970. They were awarded the Raven in 2001 by Mystery Writers of America for their contributions to the genre. Enid will be missed by all. My thoughts and sympathy go out to her husband Tom and her family.” (Via Sarah Weinman)
