eBook Treasure Hunt

By Jason Boog

Kobo_Logo.pngThe Canadian eBook company Shortcovers relaunched as Kobo Books. According to Daily Finance, the group “has raised $16 million in funding from a consortium of international booksellers, including Borders and REDGroup Retail, Australia and New Zealand’s leading book retailer.”

Earlier this week, the company alos announced that they will bring the Internet Archive‘s library of 1.8 million public domain classics, academic works, reference materials, and fiction and non-fiction titles to the iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Palm Pre, and some eReaders–for free.

The Internet Archive is a scanned collection of digital books, a library spanning 180 languages that reportedly adds 1,000 new books a day. This GalleyCat editor dug through the vast archive today, uncovering some classic lost titles. It makes for an excellent Thursday afternoon treasure hunt: “Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads” by John Avery Lomax and “The Pinkertons; a Detective Dynasty.” Feel free to add your Internet Archive favorites in the comments section.
