Dateline LBF: “Double Digits” and Last Gasp Deals

By Carmen

The good news is that the move to Earls Court from ExCeL seriously paid off, as the Bookseller’s Philip Jones reports that the event witnessed a “double digit” rise in visitor numbers year on year. Alistair Burtenshaw, group exhibition director at Reed Exhibitions, said: “It has been a hugely busy fair, thanks to the incredible support this year that LBF has received in it’s new venue, Earls Court, as is evidenced in the uplift we have seen in attendance figures this far.” He added: “Obviously we can’t give final figures at this stage, but so far we can report a double-digit increase year on year.”

Meanwhile, Publishing News wraps up its daily LBF coverage a little late, reporting about how publishers can be more environmentally friendly, the Royal Society of London Ondaatje Prize shortlist, a press expose from Giles de la Mare and Random House’s worldwide partnership to publish a new book by Globe & Mail columnist Doug Sanders.

And courtesy Booktwo, we now know that S Anand of India’s Navayana Publishing won the International Young Publisher of the Year award. Another candidate from Legend Press blogs about his experience on the shortlist while a friend of last year’s winner, Joanna El Mir, has her say as well.
