Borders Keeps Silent about Remaining Employees

Borders.GIFBorders Group, Inc. has not commented on how many people have been laid off at its corporate headquarters–nor will they reveal how many employees remain at the Ann Arbor-based home office. According to the company, CEO Bennett LeBow has made it a practice to not speak to the press.

AnnArbor.com explained: “Michael Norris, an industry analyst with Maryland-based Simba Information, told AnnArbor.com that he’s noticed similar bouts of silence among other companies in the books industry. ‘They don’t just don’t communicate well,’ he said of the industry.”

The article points to an anonymous LiveJournal page where various commenters are trying to sort out the number of employees let go last week. Earlier this year Borders made cuts at its Ann Arbor headquarters and its Tennessee distribution facility. Ann Arbor’s loss remains unknown. Tennessee saw a cut of 100 employees.
