Napa Wine Train Book Club Lawsuit Settled

By Dianna Dilworth

The book club that was kicked off of a wine train in Napa last year has settled its $11 million discrimination lawsuit against The Napa Valley Wine Train.

Members of the Sistahs on the Reading Edge book club, a group of mostly African American women, were kicked off the train for allegedly being too loud. The group contended that they were victims of racism. After the women complained about the incident, the wine train CEO apologized and offered the members free train tickets and promised to do diversity training. The book club members were unsatisfied with this offer and filed a lawsuit a couple of months

Terms of the lawsuit settlement were not disclosed. SF Gate has more details:

The settlement still needs to be approved by the Wine Train’s governing board. But the women’s attorney, Waukeen McCoy, described the agreement as amicable and said he hopes the case serves as “a learning experience for all businesses” in the need for “diversity and sensitivity training.”
