I’ve singled out short story writer and New Yorker editor Ben Greenman for his prowess at linking musical parodies to current events before. After publishing a few of them on Gawker last year, he’s taken the format back to McSweeney’s, where he presented “Death Comes for Britney Spears!“… which a few of his friends recently adapted for video. Granted, they don’t actually sing, but they do speak in rhyme, and there is a dance number. Greenman even plays himself, metatextually scripting the entire affair. It’s reasonably safe for work, if a bit risqué for (forgive the pun) brief flashes.
Greenman’s next musical was just posted this afternoon; it’s about the Roger Clemens scandal, and it includes some of his best passages yet.
