The “bad jobs in novels” hashtag has generated a ton of literary hilarity in the Twitter universe for the past 24 hours. Curtis Brown literary agent, Nathan Branford created the hashtag after contemplating about the jobs innkeepers have to perform in fictional settings. Besides the examples he cites in his blog entry, Branford himself made four contributions to the hashtag. Here are 5 funny answers:

Vivien Jackson: “Laundress in an erotica.”
Anne Riley: “Mother of teen girl in paranormal YA romance.”
Rebecca Hearne: “Food in The Very Hungry Caterpillar!”
Brooks Sherman: “Test subject #1 in any sci-fi.”
Elizabeth Schaefer: “James Bond’s urologist. All those VD meds…”

If there were a poll, this GalleyCat Correspondent would vote for the erotica laundress. James Bond’s urologist doesn’t get the sympathy vote because urologists knew what they were signing up for when they picked their specialties in medical school. See below for 5 more hilarious responses.

Delilah S. Dawson: “First wife, pre-1990.”
Nathan Branford: “Air traffic control in a superhero novel.”
Guinevere de la Mare: “Being Harry Potter.”
Delilah S. Dawson: “Chamber Maid Who Learns a Secret.”
Nathan Branford: “Hardworking, decent citizen in the prologue of a thriller.”
