Backspace Selects Two Literary Ingenues

By Neal

The organizers of next month’s Backspace Writers Conference, which will be held in New York City just as BookExpo America is getting underway, announced late last week that they’ve picked two unpublished writers who’ll be coming to the conference for free. And I don’t just mean that their admission fees will be waived: Thanks to a finanical gift from an anonymous bestselling author, Backspace is able to fly Allison Johnson and Torrey Meeks into town and put them up at the Algonquin for three nights, at which point they’ll be able to network with agents and sit in on panels covering everything from creating memorable characters to marketing books online. (Full disclosure: Our own Sarah Weinman is moderating one of those panels on May 31.)
