Apple Keynote: The Tablet Cometh?

By Jason Boog

iphone3gs1.jpgApple Inc. (AAPL) has announced a September 7 keynote presentation, an event where the company usually reveals a new product or development (like they did during the Great iPod Keynote of September 2007)–leading many to speculate that the company will unveil the mythical iPod tablet.

MediaMemo broke the news of the upcoming conference, but Apple representatives kept mum about the subject of the keynote. As GalleyCat has noted, insiders speculate that the Apple tablet will be a 10-inch device, similar to the iPod Touch that could rival Kindle offerings from Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN). This theoretical device could use iPod and iPhone-friendly readers like Lexcycle’s Stanza and ScrollMotion, giving readers web access while reading.

Here’s more from MediaMemo: “Perhaps it will show off the new ‘Cocktail’ format that Apple has been working on … But unless Apple unveils its so-called iTablet, a touchscreen device that’s supposed to be a cross between an iPhone and a full-fledged MacBook laptop computer, there are going to be a lot of disappointed Apple acolytes.” (Via Mike Cane)
