Adult Fiction/Non-Fiction Hardcover Revenues Topped eBooks in April

By Jason Boog

According to the Association of American Publishers (AAP) StatShot monthly revenue report for April, sales revenue in the adult fiction/non-fiction hardcover category beat eBooks for the month. We’ve embedded the April chart above.

Here’s more from the report: “For April, Hardcover returned to the #1 spot for sales revenue for Adult Fiction/Non-Fiction ahead of eBooks, reflecting seasonal buying patterns (if you recall, these rankings were switched in March).  In [year-to-date revenues], eBooks remained as the #1 format in Adult F/NF as it did last month but with a much narrower margin.  Both Hardcover and eBook revenues increased vs April 2011 and vs YTD 2011.”

In addition, the publishing industry saw a five percent increase in April sales revenue compared to the same period last year. The association collected data from 1,187 publishers to compile the report.

Below, you can see eBook and print breakdown in another chart. eBooks still lead in year-to-date (YTD) revenues.
