Zulu Alpha Kilo Celebrates Anniversary with Blank Canvas

By Erik Oster

“When Zulu opened its doors in 2008, the Toronto agency displayed a blank white canvas in its lobby. Over the years, agency employees and visitors alike have been invited to contribute to the communal canvas, with each contribution captured with a stop motion camera. Everyone working at the agency contributed to the canvas, with one notable exception.

To mark the agency’s seventh anniversary, Zulu founder and chief creative officer Zak Mroueh finally added his contribution, painting the canvas white. Then the agency compiled the footage of each contribution into a video, sifting through over 100,000 images in the process, and projecting the video onto the now-blank canvas.

“With so many exciting changes happening at Zulu, it felt like the right time for us to start a new chapter,” explained Mroueh. “The best part is that you can see the history of the last seven years every time you walk through the doors in the video. It’s a reminder of where we’ve been but also where we’re going.”
