It’s almost that time of year for Wrath of Cannes, the event created by Woods Witt Dealy & Sons that’s a “bitter response to the self-congratulating, glad-handing, marblebag-wearing, Dom-swilling, bronzer-slathered soirees that fester up on the beach in Cannes” according to agency co-founder/CD Harry Woods.
But the parties involved are doing things a bit differently with the fifth installment of WoC by giving entrants a brief: Broaden the awareness and appeal of Tony Hawk’s Birdhouse brand without selling out. Yep, that Tony Hawk, who’s also playing judge and whose skateboarding company is also a sponsor of the Wrath (full disclosure: yours truly is also judging–hey, blame them, not us if you need to). Deadline for entries is June 17, fyi.
Anyhow, Cha Cha’s Club Atlantis in Coney Island will play host to the Wrath of Cannes, which takes place on June 23. Hey, who needs Pencils and Lions when you have a trophy of a man’s head up his arse–aka the Grand Coney–in hand? Check out a video of a sleepy-looking Hawk introducing the event.
