W+K London Goes ‘Bigger. Badder. Birdier.’ for Angry Birds 2

By Erik Oster

W+K London released a 60-second spot for Rovio Entertainment’s proper follow-up to the massively successful Angry Birds, Angry Birds 2, which was released on July 30.

The spot opens on a group of pigs living it up on a tropical island, before a lookout spies an aviary attack and sounds the alarm. Soon the porcine paradise is under a complete barrage, with explosions everywhere. One such explosion concludes the spot by turning into a giant “2,” followed by a quick look at Angry Birds 2’s gameplay. As far as ads for mobile games go, this one has an unusual amount of eye candy, with production company Riff Raff and VFX company The Mill pulling out all the stops in dressing up the action. Clearly Rovio made enough on the success of the Angry Birds franchise to foot a sizable production budget for the ad promoting the series’ first proper sequel, which the company is banking on matching the success of its predecessor. According to Campaign, the spot was shot at Big Major Cay, an island in the Bahamas actually populated by wild pigs, lending some unexpected verisimilitude to the spot’s cartoonish action.
