W+K Amsterdam launched a campaign for FIFA 16 with a new spot featuring a “football-focused version of the famous Aria from the ‘Barber of Seville’ opera,” entitled “Play Beautiful.”
The spot stars Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero and Alex Morgan, and also features appearances from Pele and Kobe Bryant, who pulls off a pretty neat stunt. It opens on the stars trying to one-up each other while wearing motion-capture gear. The action then switches to a couple of friends playing FIFA 16 and for the rest of the ad switches back and forth between real-life soccer theatrics and in-game footage. The spot ends with a glass-breaking crescendo and the “Play Beautiful” tagline. W+K Amsterdam’s global campaign kicks off today, with the spot running online and broadcast, supported by social activations.
“For a game that provides as much beauty as football it’s surprising more operas haven’t been written about it,” said W+K Amsterdam creative director David Smith. “So it seemed appropriate to add one to the world’s oeuvre.”
