Following a similar sordid path as fellow athletes Tiger Woods and Ben Roethlisberger, Lawrence Taylor’s arrest yesterday for third-degree rape has prompted sponsor Nutrisystem to drop the New York Giants legend from its roster.
A rep for the weight loss brand has addressed the very serious charges Taylor’s facing (which his lawyer of course says he’s innocent of), telling TMZ, “We are shocked and saddened by these very serious allegations against Lawrence Taylor. Based on the severity of these allegations, Nutrisystem has made the decision to sever our relationship with Mr. Taylor effective immediately.”
The above ad featuring Taylor and his 35 lb. loss has been removed from the Nutrisystem website and the former linebacker has now been replaced by baseball pro Matt Stairs.
