House Rules: You Can’t Speak to AgencySpy

By Matt Van Hoven

A source within a holding co. agency tells us no one from that company is allowed to speak with us officially or otherwise. We must be doing something right, but, they (and all the agencies that share this rule) are definitely doing something wrong. Why? Well the first rule of parenting is when you tell a kid they can’t do something they immediately go out and do it. This is how 90% of children are conceived. Whoever made up that whizz-bang rule must be single and/or childless.

I don’t have any kids but as you well know following rules is for weenies. We wouldn’t have “Lemon” and “Think Small” for goodness sake, had Koenig or Lois or whoever followed the rules of the day. So, we say, send us your tips, especially if they’re about Publicis.

Nay nay, we shan’t start a spat. Other agencies have this rule too. But an entire holding co? Damn, talk about daunting. I mean, I’m just a midwestern kid who couldn’t get into the biz and now I’m all bitter and write about you gads with your banner ads and your musics. If anything, PR folks should be sending us the dirt before the people who’ve been mired by such and such a mistake do. Nah, that’ll never happen. But I live in a dreamworld where blogging is a “career” and spelling is an after thought. At least here in AgencySpy land we have something to offer &#151 an escape from the kinds of companies that don’t want you talking to us or reading our stuff. That’s something!

So send us your tips at agencyspy at mediabistro dot com. IM/Tweet me at agencyspy or call me; 212-547-7935. We’ll be besties forevs!
