Haverkamp Students Present ‘Light A Candle For 9/11’

By Michael Musco

Lighting a candle is a common act of commemorating the deceased, and this is the basis of the “Light A Candle for 9/11” project. With the use of Foursquare, three students of Stefan Haverkamp and a small team of pro-bono web developers and designers have created a digital way of honoring the victims of 9/11.

Foursquare users will be able to pay their respect by checking-in, which will light a candle on the project homepage. The project venues are set up in cities nation- and worldwide. The website mainly consists of a world map, where every check-in is visualized by a light, which grows as more and more people light their personal candle.

The web page also features a comment section. People who are friends with the project on Foursquare will there be able to leave comments and condolences together with their candle.
