WXYZ Sports Director Don Shane was on the sideline covering the action of Saturday’s Michigan-Illinois football game when he unexpectedly became part of the action. In the final minutes of the Wolverine victory, Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier was shoved out of bounds, colliding with Shane.
The veteran sports reporter, who has been with Ann Arbor’s WXYZ for over two decades, suffered a split lip but that didn’t keep him from interviewing Forcier after the game. The star quarterback instantly apologized to Shane. Clutching Shane’s chin, Forcier exclaimed, “Oh, no, I got you!” Shane laughed, “I’m the one you knocked over, man.” (Video here)
Shane’s upper lip required four stitches. According to WXYZ, he is “in good spirits and recovering well.”
