WXYZ anchor Alicia Smith was on the air Wednesday morning to update viewers on surgery she had the day before. “I’m feeling just fine,” Smith said by phone, saying “it’s a bit awkward because I have a bandage covering most of my lip.”
The surgery, to remove a cancerous mass above her lip, involved two rounds–after the mass was removed, surgeons went back in to “dig through the roots” layer by layer. “They know where the cancer was, and they only go back in there.”
Smith shared photos of herself smiling (as best as she could) and giving a thumbs-up with her medical team. She’ll be away from WXYZ on medical leave for several weeks.
