Atlanta NBC affiliate WXIA has just announced a slew of changes to its programming schedule. The station is adding a 5:00 p.m. newscast, while dropping both its noon and 7:oo p.m. shows.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brenda Wood will co-anchor the new 5:00 p.m. program, along with DeMarco Morgan. The old 7:oo p.m. show, “Daily 11 at 7,” will be replaced with “Wheel of Fortune.”
WXIA is also ending its noon newscast and readjusting the schedule of its “pay for play” show “Atlanta and Company.” The program will now be hosted by Christine Pullara and will run continuously from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
WXIA general manager John Deushane told the Journal-Constitution that fewer people are watching local news in the middle of the day so they are transferring their efforts during that time frame online.
The changes begin March 2.
