WWMT, the CBS affiliate in Kalamazoo, Mich., has hired a news director to succeed Steve Koles.

Matt Johnson comes from Columbia, Mo., where he also served as news director.

“I am thrilled to bring him on board as he offers exemplary leadership, judgment and a passion for news. He is excited to build on the success of our growing news operation, to provide accurate, timely information to viewers on our traditional and digital platforms,” said Fred Corbus, general manager of WWMT.

He fills the vacancy left by Koles, who left the station to work at WBNS in Columbus, Ohio.

He begins work on Oct. 10.
