“Ken Lass is the gold standard of news coverage and community service in Birmingham,” said WVTM president and gm Hank Price. “We hate to see him go, but wish him nothing but the best in retirement.”
According to the Birmingham, Ala. NBC affiliate, Lass’ last broadcast this Friday will be celebrated by a special morning show broadcast called Ken’s Farewell Friday.
Ken started his TV career as a sportscaster in Tallahassee, FL, and later moved to Green Bay, WI, where he relished the opportunity to cover his beloved Green Bay Packers. Ken came to Alabama as a sports director, but also saw success in Christian radio and corporate public relations before finally settling behind the morning news desk at WVTM 13.
“I’m one of those rare people who has gotten to do everything he wanted to do,” said Ken, reflecting on decades of opportunities and accomplishments. “I really got to do all of it—every single thing. How many people get to say that?”
In total, Ken enjoyed 26 years as part of the WVTM 13 family. Now, he looks forward to enjoying more time with his family outside the station.
