Scranton anchor Sharla McBride is heading to the nation’s capitol from WNEP.

McBride, who started as a sports reporter and weekend sports anchor in 2008, will join WUSA, the Tegna station in Washington D.C. Her last day on air was last week.

“It’s bittersweet for sure. I have loved my time here. You don’t spend 12 years at a place and not enjoy what you do. This has been an amazing station to work for,” she told the Citizens Voice.

McBride says she’ll go back to covering sports, something she’s always loved and hasn’t done for a few years in Pennsylvania.

“I started here covering sports. Loved it. It has always been my passion since I was 12-years-old. That’s what I wanted to do, be a sports reporter, a sports anchor. Now I have the opportunity to go back and do that. I’ll be their sports anchor and sports reporter at WUSA in Washington, D.C,” she said.

McBride will start in time for March Madness. She started her broadcast career in Abilene, Texas.
