WTVJ Hires Telemundo Veteran as VP of News

WTVJ has named Migdalia Figueroa vice president of news.

Figueroa comes to NBC’s Miami station from Telemundo, where she served as senior vice president of local content for the Telemundo Station Group, overseeing news and local content for all of the the company’s 14 owned stations.

“I am delighted to welcome Migdalia to the NBC 6 leadership team,” WTVJ president and general manager Manuel Martinez said, announcing the move. “She brings a passion for news, a wealth of knowledge, and a strong understanding of the South Florida market. This combination makes her the natural choice to lead the NBC 6 news team.”

Figueroa has been with Telemundo for the past seven years. Before taking on her current role, she served as vice president of news at WSCV, the Telemundo station in the Miami, for five years.

Before joining Telemundo, Figueroa spent 15 years working for Univision. Her tenure at Univision included a job as executive producer for WLTV, the company’s Miami station.

“I am honored to join a station with such rich history, journalistic integrity and legacy of service to South Florida viewers,” Figueroa said of joining WTVJ. “I know that the future is bright for NBC 6, and I look forward to working alongside a group of such dedicated professionals and sharing in the station’s future successes.”

Figueroa replaces Lane Michaelsen, who departed the station in February (and was recently named news director at WCPO in Cincinnati).
