WTSP Sports Anchor Retires From TEGNA-Owned Station

By Kevin Eck

WTSP sports anchor and reporter Dave Wirth is retiring Friday.

“It’s starting to hit home,” Wirth told the Tampa Bay Times. “It feels a little strange to be leaving, but there’s an awfully good feeling of relief, too.”

“After 3 decades of covering Tampa Bay sports, Dave Wirth is going to have a little bit more me-time and a lot more tee-times,” the TEGNA-owned station wrote on its Facebook page. “10News WTSP’s Reginald Roundtree and the whole staff wanted to wish the newsroom’s favorite golf buddy a happy retirement. Join us in saying congratulations to Dave!”

In his 32 years in broadcast TV, Wirth has only worked at two TV stations WPEC in West Palm Beach and WTSP. He started at WTSP in Tampa in 1984.

“As (former Buccaneers head coach) Lovie Smith said, ‘It’s time to hit the pause button for a little while,'” said Wirth.
