WTAE Hires Former Intern as Anchor

By Kevin Eck

Kelly Sasso has been hired by Hearst-owned WTAE as its morning traffic and breaking news anchor. She’ll also anchor the noon newscast.

Sasso, who grew up in the area, once interned at the Pittsburgh ABC affiliate. She comes from KHBS-KHOG in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she anchors under the name Kelly Johnson.

“I am leaving,” Johnson wrote on her Facebook page. “Life changed for me in the past few weeks when I auditioned for, and was (to my surprise) selected to join the WTAE news team as an anchor and reporter. I hold that station and everyone there in such high regard that, even with several days to let this news sink in, I’m still in shock.”
