WSET_2009_smallRandy Smith, GM of WSET is leaving local TV to be the EVP of Liberty University.

He told staffers of the Roanoke-Lynchburg, Va. ABC affiliate in an email today, his last day will be January 9, 2015.

This email is a follow up to the staff meeting this morning. As most of you know by now, I have accepted the position of Executive Vice President of Liberty University. My last day at WSET will be January 9, 2015.

Although I am very much looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead, this decision was not an easy one to make. I have spent much of the last sixteen years with most of you and you are like family to me. I can’t imagine anyone ever having been blessed with a better team that I have had. You are leaders in our industry, you have accomplished much, and you will continue to do so. I have so much to thank you for.

I believe the future of the station is very bright and I would not want anyone to see this as anything other than the great opportunity for me that it is. Please do as you have always done during times of transition. Focus on what has to be done and forge ahead.

I’ll just be across town, so I hope to see you often!

Randy
