WSB is losing its original investigative reporter.
Jim Strickland will retire from the ABC affiliate in Atlanta in February, AJC.com reported.
“He’s exposed countless rip-offs and scams and he’s made a real difference in helping people in Georgia protect their money and families,” news director Misti Turnbull told AJC.com. “We are thrilled he can now enjoy a well-earned retirement.”
Strickland started the station’s investigative unit in 1999. He said it was time to move on from the business after 38 years.
“I’ve been doing this since before Ronald Reagan got shot,” he said in an interview. “This is a hard job. The hours are wacky. The hours are long. I live in West Cobb, 30 miles door to door each way.”
Strickland has earned eight Emmys, a Murrow and other prestigious journalism awards.
