By Merrill Knox

After three years at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Kait Parker is leaving the NBC affiliate to join The Weather Channel as an on-camera meteorologist.

While she was in Palm Beach, Parker also worked as an instructor for Earth’s Climate Systems, a graduate course designed by the AMS and NASA. Before joining WPTV, Parker worked as the weekday morning meteorologist for WAKA in Montgomery, Ala.

“Kait is a passionate and energetic meteorologist who will make a great addition to our ever-growing team of the industry’s leading names in weather,” Weather Channel president David Clark said in a statement.

Parker will make her Weather Channel debut on January 13. Read the announcement of Parker’s hire from Jennifer Rigby, the senior director of coverage and talent, after the jump.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Kait Parker will join The Weather Channel as our newest on-camera meteorologist. Kait joins us from WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, FL, where she served as morning meteorologist. While in West Palm Beach, Kait was also an instructor for Earth’s Climate Systems, a graduate-level course designed by the American Meteorological Society and NASA. Prior to WPTV-TV, Kait was the weekday morning meteorologist for WAKA-TV in Montgomery, AL.

Kait earned her bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science from the University of Missouri where she also taught a course on storm chasing and was on the Mizzou storm chase team. While at Missouri, Kait began her broadcast career, providing on-air forecasts for local radio stations and KOMU-TV. Kait is an AMS certified broadcast meteorologist and has been recognized nationally for her charitable work.

Kait’s first day will be January 13th. Please join me in welcoming her to The Weather Channel.
