WPLG Anchor Injured in Crash

WPLG morning co-anchor Jacey Birch spent the night in a South Florida hospital after being injured in a car crash early Tuesday morning. Birch, who is nine months’ pregnant, suffered a broken foot and concussion, but doctors report her baby appears to be fine.

“Two feet in the other direction, I wouldn’t have survived that crash, and my child wouldn’t have survived that crash,” Birch told WPLG.

Birch was driving to work when she was hit by a car that ran a red light. The other driver, who has not been charged in the accident, was arrested on an outstanding drug charge. Police woke up Birch’s husband, WPLG weather anchor Trent Aric, at the couple’s home shortly after the accident.

“My heart sank,” Aric said. “We’ve all seen TV shows and movies. They only knock on your door for one reason, and I thought he was going to tell me that I lost my wife and child.”

The couple expects the baby to arrive in about two weeks.
