WPIX Expands Morning News

By Stephanie Tsoflias Siegel

WPIX will now begin its morning news show at 4:30am.

The new time slot puts the Tribune-owned station on air 30 minutes earlier and at the same time as New York’s other major morning show, Good Day Wake-Up, which is now anchored by former PIX11 anchor, Sukanya Krishnan.

Anchors Kala Rama and Craig Treadway will start the show and hand it over to main anchors, Betty Nguyen and Dan Mannarino from 6am-9am.

“Comprehensive local news programming and breaking coverage has always been our focus, and returning the morning news broadcast to a 4:30am start was a logical extension, allowing us to reach a growing news audience,” said Amy Waldman, PIX11 News Director.

Marissa Torres will continue to provide traffic from 4:30-9am and do weather reports from 4:30-6am. Meteorologist Byron Miranda will lead weather forecasts from 6-9am.

With the expansion of the morning newscast, WPIX will produce nearly 40 hours of live, local news each week.
